As my new song "Edge of the Horizon" continues to develop, I've been thinking a lot about what it means for a work to be in progress: in pursuit of its full potential, unfolding at its own pace. In making art – as well as in making one's way through this world – things take however long they take to manifest, to reveal their true nature, or to be resolved. All beautiful things unfold in their own time. Nothing is gained by hurrying a creative project to completion. We are not meant to force a flower to bloom. Instead, our task is to be present and available, and willing to partner however and whenever we are needed. It is a skill that can take a lifetime to cultivate: the gift of sitting in Spirit in the moment – no matter how long that moment lasts – with something or someone in the process of opening itself to be seen by the world, and offering what we can as it is requested. Sometimes we are asked to aid in the process through work and effort. Other times all that is requested is our attention, our observation of the progress being made. Things take however long they take. The work unfolds in its own time. As artists, we facilitate and bear witness. #theartistlife #edgeofthehorizon
